Asahi Quality & Innovations, Ltd. (AQI) is an independent research and development subsidiary of asahi-group-holdings. It was established to focus on fundamental technologies, applied research, and new business incubation to support Asahi’s broader corporate strategy and transition beyond traditional alcohol.
AQI utilizes a unique backcasting methodology—analyzing projected megatrends for the year 2050 to dictate current research themes and investments. The subsidiary’s research spans three core domains:
- Alcohol Innovation: Creating new value to cater to changing consumption behaviors.
- Health & Wellness: Enhancing physical and mental health through functional ingredients.

AQI is responsible for the discovery and clinical validation of Asahi’s proprietary biotics and yeast derivatives, including lactobacillus-gasseri-cp2305, bacteroides-uniformis, and yeast-mannan.
