Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) is a major Australian brewing company. In 2020, asahi-group-holdings finalized a $16 billion acquisition of CUB.

This acquisition was a cornerstone of Asahi’s overseas expansion strategy, designed to offset the maturing domestic market in Japan. By acquiring CUB, Asahi secured nearly half (48.5%) of the Australian beer market, making the Asia Pacific region a critical hub for its global revenue and its testing ground for a multi-beverage-strategy.
